2018 — Paper grids in a borrowed room

Early prototypes were literal scissors and glue-sticks. People brought coffee-stained school planners; we translated their language into colour-coded strips that respected kapa haka nights, night shifts, and Saturday rep sport.

What we learned

Humour and plain te reo greetings in the margin lowered stress more than any shade of neon green ever could.

2021 — Shared files with guardrails

We moved to structured documents with version notes so flatmates or partners could co-edit without overwriting each other’s comments. Consent to share sat at the top of every file—important under New Zealand privacy expectations.

What we learned

Rural clients asked for offline packs first, cloud second. We listened.

2024 — Softer “glass” interfaces

Frosted panels tested better for long reading sessions than flat dashboards. Hover states became gentle lifts instead of flashing borders—better for tired eyes after a day on the tools or at the desk.

Today — Avonhead as home base

Local kanohi ki te kanohi sessions remain central, while Zoom or Meet works the same way for whānau in other centres. The objective stays constant: readable weeks that acknowledge both exertion and stillness.
